It's time to get your craft on this half term with this spooktacular activity. Perfect for some Halloween fun with the kids.
Trick or treating just got a whole lot more exciting with this cute miniature bat costume. It’s super simple to make and perfectly sized to fit your little one’s Dinkum Dolls or other similar sized toy pals.
Mini adventurers will love taking their masked friend out and about with them on all their Halloween escapades.
Add Sparkle
The beauty of this activity is that you can make this as simple or elaborate as you like - use colouring crayons or paints for the base, then really go to town by adding cut out felt shapes, stick on jewels or feathers for a striking look. Raid that junk drawer or craft box to see what treasures are lurking. And, it’s always a good idea to use recycled materials to decorate where possible.
Top Tip
Why not make it an event and dress for the occasion, pop on some ‘spooky’ music and offer some tasty themed treats. Check out this tasty spread. It's a feast for the eyes never mind about hungry tummies and it certainly brings the wow factor!

Let's Get Started
You will need:
- A Dinkum Doll or similar sized toy friend
- A printer
- A4 card or paper
- Scissors
- Child friendly glue
- Paints or crayons
- Paintbrushes
- Elastic or rubber band
- Crafting materials such as: felt, coloured paper, paints,colouring pens and pencils, feathers, stickers, glitter, stick on jewels etc.

Ready, steady, Make
Instructions:
- Gather your materials together. Print your outfit onto A4 paper or card (depending on your printer's capabilities). If printing on paper you can paste it onto a piece of card once printed and cut around it for extra sturdiness. Tip: Used cereal boxes are ideal for this.
- Scissors time! Use the guidelines to cut out the wings and headband. Always supervise little ones if scissors or sharp objects are involved.
- Time to add the base colour. Little Brian do some amazing chunky paint pens which are particularly easy for little hands to hold. And, as an added bonus, they are totally mess free too! If crayons are more your thing, The Crayon Bug has a whole host of amazing themed sets to choose from, from pirate treasure to space and fantasy - kids will go wild for them.
- Now the real fun can start. Encourage little crafters to get creative and decorate their outfit to their heart's content. Check out these Halloween themed sticker sheets from Meri Meri which make a sweet option if drawing’s not your thing.
- Once ready and dry, (if you’ve used paints or glue) take the wings and poke the designated holes out with a kebab skewer or similar (this is best as a grown ups job). Take some elastic and thread it through each hole, so you have a loop effect. Then, simply turn your wings over and tie knots in each end, to secure them. Now, take your Dinkum Doll and pop the wings on over each arm, like you would a backpack, Do the same with the headband. Skewer the holes, measure the gap at the back & then add in a piece of elastic, knotted on each end.
- And that’s it. Your totally bat-tastic mini outfit transformation is complete and ready for spooky adventures!
