A Guide to Newborn Essentials

4 min read

Hello Baby…

We’re talking all about new arrivals.

The heart bursting joy of a newborn.  The wonder of experiencing a miracle moment in life. And then...the realisation of bringing home a teeny tiny person to look after.

Those early days and weeks can be somewhat of a blur. The chaos, the calm and everything in between.

Don’t worry. We’re are on hand to help you navigate your new role as a parent, with our round-up of newborn essentials. We also asked some ‘in the know’ parents for their must-have baby products, that they simply couldn’t live without.

Nursery interior

Nursery Inspiration

If you’re a planner, you will have decked out the nursery months ago in eager anticipation.  But, for those who like to wing it a bit, we can’t write a baby themed blog without mentioning  Oliver furniture’s stunning baby furniture range. I mean just take a good look. This is what nursery dreams are made of. Beautiful, timeless pieces, all designed to grow with your family.

Let’s talk about Olli Ella’s changing baskets. These are so lightweight, ideal for using around the house. And, each one is handmade from natural rattan with vegan leather handles. Just gorgeous.

Dress to Impress

Everyone loves to celebrate a new baby. And naturally, whilst you want your baby to look it’s best, comfort is most definitely key here. Cue these newborn bonnets from Danish brand Konges Slojd.  They score super high in the adorability stakes. But, did you also know that they are crafted from the softest organic cotton - perfect for delicate new skin. Plus, they have some lovely nostalgic prints to choose from. You can shop for them here.

When the introductions are over and the visitors are all gone - and quite frankly all you crave is a hot bath, a lukewarm cup of tea and possibly a biscuit - it’s time to close the door and make friends with your new house guest.

As you swap nights out for nights in (hello Netflix) this is a time to embrace your newborn bubble.

First Moments

The first bath is a memorable one. I mean, babies just smell so lovely anyway don’t they? Make it a sweet occasion with these adorable hooded baby bath towels from Liewood, each embroidered with their signature animal faces. We’re spoilt for choice. Take a peek. Incidentally they make a thoughtful gift for any other mummies or parents-to-be that you may know too.

Next up, our curation of everyday essentials that are usable right from day one.

Muslin cloths. The unsung hero of any change bag. Check out these lovelies from Cam Cam Copenhagen. Use them as a towel, blanket, to mop up spills. The list goes on. They also make a handy baby cover for those out and about feeds too. They are available in various sizes and an array of dreamy prints. It’s fair to say we’re obsessed.

Little Wonder

It goes without saying that a baby activity gym or play mat is a must have. A magical sensory feast, made for exploring.  Introduce little ones early on to get them used to the sights and sounds.

We asked Marta and Sam, crazy talented husband and wife duo @martatanseyphotography, about their go to choice for young daughter, Maddison.

"We love the Little Dutch Play gym. Maddison loves working on her hand-eye coordination by reaching and grabbing the soft toys. It goes perfectly with the Little Dutch Playpen Mat, which is so soft and encourages her to touch and explore the marine animal toys".

It’s a Big Wide World

When venturing out, it’s important that little babes are suitably dressed for the weather. Kelly Eastwood aka @thelondonchatter shares her top summer baby product with us. She told us:

“I love this gorgeously soft Liewood sun hat with adorable bear ears. Not only is it made from 100% organic cotton, with a longer back for full sun protection, but I’ve also finally found the perfect way to twin with my baby boy this summer!”mum and baby

Cuteness overload in one gorgeous pic.

Be sure to check out Kelly’s wonderful blog for all things fashion and lifestyle as well as her inspiring ‘Buy To Give’ collaborations, raising funds for wildlife projects in Kenya. The London Chatter.
