Nordic Inspired Christmas Craft: DIY Decorations

Nordic Inspired Christmas Craft: DIY Decorations

2 min read

Celebrate the season with this cute Christmas craft, a lovely little activity to enjoy with young ones in the lead up to the big day.

This enchanting Nordic inspired woodland character will certainly add some rustic charm to your festive decor. Hang from the Christmas tree or in the window for a traditional, Scandinavian look.

Ready, Steady, Craft.

Super simple to create, this sweet activity takes minimum effort, for maximum effect. Why not go all out and create your very own enchanted woodland of elvish folk complete with different coloured hats, to bring a homemade touch to this magical time of year.

You will need

  1. Pinecones
  2. Felt (in an assortment of colours - we like dark greens and bright festive inspired red)
  3. Craft glue
  4. Scissors (child safe ones are great)
  5. Mini pom poms
  6. Ribbon
  7. Large craft needle (look online for a wooden weaving needle which does the job perfectly and are not as sharp as regular needles)

Little ones should be fully supervised at all times and never unattended with any of the above.

  1. Take a pinecone and place it in the centre of a large, square piece of felt.
  2. Cut the felt to size - so that the base is wider than the top, ensuring it meets in the middle when wrapped around the base of the pinecone, like so;

3.    Wrap it around the base of the pinecone, ensuring that the top forms a peak. Now glue the edges securely in place, as shown below:

4. Pop it to one side until the glue is fully dry.

5. Now, take a pom-pom and glue it in the centre of the pinecone, so that it is touching the base of the hat to create your cute little gnome nose. Leave to dry.

6. Finally, take some ribbon and thread in through the eye of the needle, securing the end with a knot. Note: This is definitely a grown-up's job. If you have older children and are comfortable with them using a blunt, wooden needle then you may wish to let them have a go, fully supervised of course.

7. Thread the needle through the top of the hat, then loop it around  thread it back through and tie it off - voila you are now ready to hang your decoration.

Top Tip: These would look delightful attached to a gift bag complete with gift tag.
