A Focus on >> Muslins and Swaddles

Preparing for a newborn is exciting, nerve-wracking and pretty overwhelming. In this series of blog posts we want to share some of our hints and tips from experience both as parents and as owners of Scandiborn

First up Muslins and Swaddles.

Muslins and Swaddles are made from a light cotton material, breathable and absorbent they are one of the most useful things you can have to hand at all times. I spent at least the first three months of motherhood with one draped over my shoulder in a vain attempt to protect my outfit/hair from 'spillages'. I bought a lot of muslins and swaddles, some good and some very bad and this is what I learnt...

 Three Top Tips

1. Always buy organic, non-organic muslins get really stiff and scratchy which isn't nice for baby or you, organic muslins genuinely get softer with each wash, I'm still using my Cam Cam petrol muslin nearly 2 years on. They are not that much more expensive and you won't end up throwing them away after 2 months.

2. Swaddles are useful even if you're not swaddling your baby. Swaddles are just a bigger muslin cloth, I found them really useful as a light blanket over the pram or on the sofa. If you want to know more about swaddling you can read about it on the NCT website

3. Get something fun, yes muslins are an essential but it doesn't mean they can't be fun too - Liewood design have embraced this with their animal range, you can choose from rabbit, cat or panda they come in a pack of two and they are just too cute for words. Coveted things are also perfect for newborn baby shoots - we love the wings, magical memories to be made!
